Testing Fortitude

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vassil_determination.jpg

Life can turn into
Olympic trials to test
fortitude and will.

To give in or not,
to insist on finding joy,
life will test all that.

Am I foolish for
being cussedly stubborn
in not giving up?

I don't think it's foolish at all. I firmly believe that standing strong and seeking joy keeps us moving forward. Giving in to adversity and allowing ourselves to wallow is the start of a downward spiral.

It would be foolish to give up looking for, and often finding that joy. Since becoming chronically ill, I more often than not can find joy even in the smallest things. A new flower bud, a sunny sky, a bird's song, my granddaughter's smile etc.

Muff, indeed, my arsenal of weapons is not only the smile I have referred to before, but also my determination to remain strong and resolute. I may, on occasion (viz. tomorrow's poem), acknowledge and dwell in the low moments, but I try to get out as soon as I can. I allow those moments, though, because I think they are, too, part of the healing process. Total denial is not good either.

Karen, I see evidence of your finding joy every time I see one of your beautiful photos. The beauty you find is healing for me, too.
