My profound thanks to Leonard Cohen for writing his hauntingly moving Hallelujah and to KD Lang for her masterful interpretation.
Leonard Cohen, a Canadian icon. I have been privileged to see him many times in concert over decades,(and KD as well).
Cohen in an interview stated "what I mean by 'Hallelujah'. That regardless of what the impossibility of the situation is, there is a moment when you open your mouth and you throw open your arms and you embrace the thing and you just say 'Hallelujah! Blessed is the name.' And you can't reconcile it in any other way except in that position of total surrender, total affirmation. There's no solution to this mess. The only moment that you can live here comfortably in these absolutely irreconcilable conflicts is in this moment when you embrace it all and you say 'Look, I don't understand a f***ing thing at all – Hallelujah!' That's the only moment that we live here fully as human beings."
KD's version is good, but nothing beats his own.

A tour when I met him,(in Canada) and was completely and utterly awestruck, with his wisdom and insight.

Leonard Cohen is my favorite poet, artist, Buddhist, inspiration... his words are incredible... his voice.. oh man.
I have never heard this version by KD Lang... I'm so glad you shared it! I've always enjoyed her voice, she has such talent. And what she does with this song is amazing!

I feel as if my life currently is a broken hallelujah so this song really speaks to me. There is no playbook for how to emerge from this brokenness except to utter hallelujah in surrender, in praise, and in hope. The support of friends like you ferries me through the brokenness, and for that I thank you.
