My world assessment,
if limited to headlines,
would be dark indeed.
Darkness does exist,
history will remind us,
but light prevails too.
I would much rather
embrace life’s promise blindly
than get mired in gloom.

Research shows that, “in all cultures, the conviction that one’s predicament is hopeless may cause or hasten disintegration and death.” [Jerome and Julia Frank, Persuasion and Healing] The tools available to me to fight this disease are limited. Could it be that keeping hope alive is the strongest weapon in my arsenal?

I rarely read, listen to, or watch the news. I also abruptly change the subject when people ask my opion, or relay gloom and doom from the media.
I like looking for the light, as well. Our physical state is gloomy enough -- who needs more? I hope you're feeling better soon!
Peace,
Muff
I got my own ignorance to deal with. I don't need to swim through the muck of other people's, especially when they seem to like its stench so very much... But I hear you. I definitely hear you with this one.
Much harsh news, but I want to know. I don't allow it to bum me out. To me, it is just life. As usual, a great poem.
I have to watch-listen to-read the news for my job... it gets so depressing.
In between reading the headlines and tragic pieces, I dig for the human interest, feel good stories for some balance.
Karen, I at least scan the headlines to stay abreast of what is making noise in the news, but mostly I stay away.
Muff, that’s the thing. Our physical state is gloomy enough!
Robert, I so agree that they seem to like the stench so very much. I don’t need to get smelly too.
Diane, you have a tougher skin than I.
Sherri, thank goodness there are people like you paying attention. Our security depends on it. Thank you!
